Here is a continued story of the previous one ‘Learning Herbal
Medicine in England’.

I haven’t got any science background before I went to the uni
therefore, I had a conditional offer that I can join the degree
course if I pass a science foundation course.

This 1 year full time course provided us biology, chemistry,
physic, math etc and also covers academic writing,
communication and study skills, etc.
We had almost 40 people in the class and all of us had different
backgrounds - age, nationalities, experiences, etc. However, most people were English or people who were from EU so they didn't
have any problems with English and it seemed like they enjoyed
the course.

I could speak English for having communications with others but it was not enough at all! I couldn’t take notes properly, I was weak
on discussions during the courses etc.

Before I went to the Uni, my fellow herbalist told me that having a English skill is the most important otherwise it is very difficult to
take any classes.
I didn't take attention much about it a lot but once the course had started I realised and wondered myself why I decided to come to England for studying herbal medicine and not in Japan with my
own language!
I always crunched time for preparing to write essays, other course works, revising each modules etc. Particularly writing essays were nightmare as I’d never ever wrote academic writing before so it
was very hard. Also took me for a long time to read and
understand relevant books so I always needed twice or more than twice time compare to others.
So I could hardly enjoy myself during the course.
However, I thought it would be ended if I finish the course but it
was only beginning and it happened whole my university life...
(~_~;)

to be continued...

※ I left the university for few years and the situations have
changed. I am writing about ‘my experiences’ and not today’s
information. If you want to know about the details please check to
relevant organisations.
